Supplements for Hashimotos and Gut Health
Last week on my Instagram, I talked a lot about vitamins, nutrients, supplements, and gut health. One of the most common messages was "Can you please email all of this to me"? I know it can be a lot to consume information on social media, so here's a recap of what I talked about!
Whether we're talking hashimotos, gut health, inflammation, or general health and wellness... vitamins and nutrients are the backbone of what our bodies need! Several hundred years ago, people were able to get those vitamins and resources from food. But as our soil has been depleted over time, so has the quality of available vitamins in our food. This is only compounded by having special needs like hashimotos, hypothyroidism, or others where you're naturally deficient in vitamins and minerals.
The only answer to this is vitamin and mineral supplementation. Some of the most important vitamins are:
Vitamin A- essential for vision, immune system support, skin health, growth, reproduction, antioxidant, and genetic function.
Vitamin C- essential for immune system support, antioxidant protection, collagen formation, wound healing, iron absorption, brain, skin, and ocular health.
Vitamin D - essential for calcium absorption, bone health, immune system function, cell growth, mood and mental health, heart health, and muscle function.
Vitamin E - essential for antioxidant protection, immune system support, skin health, eye health, heart health, brain health, reproductive health, and cell stability.
Thiamine - essential for energy and metabolism, nervous system function, cardiovascular health, digestive system support, brain function, and stress response.
Riboflavin - essential for energy and metabolism, skin and eye health, red blood cell health and reproduction, metabolism of other vitamins, and nervous system function.
Vitamin B6 - essential for amino acid metabolism, brain synthesis, hemoglobin formation, immune system, fatty acid metabolism, glycogen breakdown, and body regulation.
Vitamin B12 - essential for DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation, nervous system function, metabolism regulation, Homocysteine Regulation, and cognitive function.
Biotin - essential for metabolism of your macronutrients, healthy hair, skin, and nails, fatty acid synthesis, gluconeogenesis, amino acid metabolism, and gene expression.
Zinc - essential for immune system function, enzymes, wound and inflammation healing, hormone regulation, and eye health.
Magnesium - essential for muscle & nerve function, energy metabolism, bone & heart health, blood pressure regulation, blood sugar balancing, and immune system support.
Selenium - essential for thyroid function, antioxidant defense, immune system support, reproductive health, and cognitive function.
I know, that was a lot. So....what does this all mean? It simply means that vitamins and nutrients are SO important for our daily function. When we have a deficiency, that need becomes even more compounded. But here's what you need to know about vitamins and supplements - quality is everything and if that vitamin is coated in plastic or chemicals, it's going to be REALLY challenging for your body to get everything you need for it.
My recommendation? Liquid or powder form so that it's easily absorbed into your body. I have shared a powder superfood on my social media incredibly regularly. It includes everything listed above (specifically the zinc, magnesium, and selenium that most people with hashimotos are deficient in). I don't have a direct link to that one because there are so many pricing and flavor options. If you want all those vitamins in a single powder superfood (I bake mine into dessert daily), just reply back and I can get you that information. It even comes free with my full hashimotos, thyroid, or gut course.
But I also tried a new liquid option. It's from Mary Ruth Organics. I like the liquid because it's easily absorbed into your body with 1-2 tablespoons a day. The 3 options I recommend are:
Daily Multivitamin - this is a GREAT option for a daily multi-vitamin, but it does NOT contain the selenium or magnesium that you also need. You'll also need to grab the Night Multimineral to get those daily essentials. If you're someone that wants the extra Lustriva to grow their hair, skin, and nails, make sure to grab the Daily Multivitamin Plus Hair Growth or Hair Growth. This is what I've been using on my hair to need 3 week root touch ups because it's growing so fast. (Code MROSARAHH15 saves you money).
This goes without saying, but you can take any vitamin or supplement you want....but if you're not removing food inflammation so that your body can process and absorb those vitamins, you're throwing your money away. I know that supplements can be the easy fix, but make sure to do the hard work too so that those vitamins and supplements can go to work for you. Need a simple anti-infammatory or gut healing nutrition plan? I now have 2 options for you.
Option 1 - The hashimotos nutrition guide is a gut friendly nutrition plan aimed to removed inflammatory foods. This bundle includes Elimination diet nutrition plan, a 4 week meal plan, an approved snack guide, a food list, proper gut health and supplement recs, and a full symptoms chart. This bundle can be found HERE.
Option 2 - The Inflammation Elimination mini course includes the nutrition guide previously mentioned, as well as the education on food inflammation (blood sugar balancing guide, how to create your own favorite new meal plans and recipes, food and food timing, and more). This bundle can be found HERE.
